Tom Watson

Legendary golfer Tom Watson has played a lot of golf in his lifetime. When he’s not on tour, he’s playing golf in his backyard, thanks to his new SYNLawn Golf practice facility. Since Watson knows practice makes perfect and has admitted to hitting “a million practice balls,” he is now happy to endorse SYNLawn Golf’s products to encourage others that they too can practice better.

Watson was born in 1949 in Kansas City, MO, and was introduced to golf at the young age of six by his father. He later played for Stanford University while studying psychology. He’s got 39 PGA Tour wins under his belt, a five-time British Open Champion, two-time Masters Champion and U.S. Open Champion. Additionally, he was acknowledged as the “Player of the Year” six times and was inducted into the PGA World Golf Hall of Fame in 1988. In recent years, he has played on the over-50 Champions Tour where he has achieved 13 additional wins. Since he grew up playing and practicing in icy and snowy weather, he is recognized as one of the best foul weather players out there. He attributes his success to his determination, strong work ethic and his mentors.

Before deciding on his new golf complex, Watson visited good friend Dave Pelz, a world-renowned golf instructor, golf guru and author. His visit to Pelz’s home in Dripping Springs, TX, solidified Watson’s decision with SYNLawn Golf since Pelz’s golf complex features SYNLawn’s artificial turf. Pelz’s backyard is every golfer’s paradise and has even been named “The World’s Greatest Backyard” by The Wall Street Journal. Because of his SYNLawn artificial turf, he’s able to practice all elements of his golf game at home and get results that are as close to the real thing as possible.

After doing his due diligence and thorough research, Watson knew that SYNLawn Golf and the Dave Pelz ShotStopper™ system was just what he needed for his backyard. He had his local SYNLawn GreensMaster™ Certified distributor, Summit Flooring & Turf, design and install it at his 3,500-square-foot facility at his Kansas City home. With SYNLawn, he’s able to practice his approach and short game in a way that’s realistic regardless of the weather, and the artificial turf receives the ball just the way that he wants it to. He can conveniently practice his swing on his custom-designed putting green anytime of the year.
