All About Golf expands facility with SYNLawn

CHARLOTTETOWN, Prince Edward Island — SYNLawn Canada announces the completion of the largest indoor golf chipping and putting facility of its kind on the East Coast.

“I chose SYNLawn over its competitors for a number of reasons,” stated Stephen Dowling, PGA, and general manager of All About Golf. “Not only does the SYNLawn putting green react just like real bent grass turf, but also because it was being installed in an indoor environment, the fire rating and lack of off-gas odors was extremely important.”

Designed by Larry Roy of SYNLawn Ottawa and a SYNLawn Certified Greens Master, the All About Golf facility is a 7,200-square-foot, par-44, indoor championship putting course that is a challenge for even the most avid golfer. “To make the course look and feel realistic, I used the SYNLawn Precision Putt (aka SYNGreen 326) for the putting surface and SYNRye 211 and 251 for the collar and rough areas. We also used synthetic blue and white turf to simulate the five water hazards and six sand traps,” said Roy.” More than 463,000 pounds of stone dust was hauled in by wheelbarrow to create the rolling hills and sloping surfaces below the turf. Each green has its own distinct golf element, including breaks, humps, tiers and lags.

According to Dave Pelz, one of golf’s foremost authorities, “While practicing more often is important, what you practice is equally as important.” The Elements of Practice, created by Pelz, is a series of drills and games created to focus on a specific elements of your short game and can be practiced on SYNLawn Golf custom greens or putting mats.

The putting surface is designed with realistic slopes and STIMPmeter readings of between 9.5 and 11.5. “What is great about the SYNLawn product is that I can change the STIMP readings to make the course play faster or slower during a putting tournament, which makes the course even more challenging,” said Dowling.

SYNLawn golf turf products are ideal for high traffic putting courses as they are made of 100-percent nylon fibers for superior resiliency. They have also received a “Class 1” fire protection rating according to ASTM E648 testing procedures by an independent testing laboratory. Its combination with the exclusive EnviroLoc™ technology BioCel™ backing system reduces off-gassing for greater indoor air quality and safety. In addition, the dyes used by SYNLawn do not contain led chromium.
